The Dark Forest Theory of the Internet and Generative AI
The Dark Forest theory is a hypothesis for the Fermi Paradox - the reason we haven't heard from aliens is because we're in a dark forest - many alien civilizations do exist, but they are both silent and hostile. The Dark Forest Theory of the web is an analogous theory, which suggests that the internet, which was previously an open safe place, has now become dangerous/misaligned, and this trend has exacerbated because of Generative AI ` This goal of this talk is to make people aware about how the internet as we know will change (has been changing?)
